OP Newsletter (OPN) Subscription Features

What is OPNewsletter (OPN)?

OPNewsletter is established to provide low risk options trading suggestions based on my real-money portfolio that I am willing to share with subscribers. It is no way a recommendation letter and please note that I am not a financial advisor. The trades shared are not ALL of my trades, and my personal trading account performance may or may not match with OPN results.

Before you read further, please read “Legal Notices and Disclaimer” carefully to understand the terms and conditions for usage of this blog and its services.

Objectives of OPN:

  1. Target monthly returns of 5%-7% on overall invested capital.
  2. Short Holding period
  3. High winning probability trades
  4. Capital preservation always overrides missing an investment opportunity

With OPNewsletter subscription, what to expect?

Complete Plan and Diversified Approach

  • As part of the newsletter, a full trading plan, consisting of strategy, capital allocation guidelines, risk/reward, break-even analysis, adjustment plans, exit strategy as well as initial risk management plans, is shared.
  • An average of 3 to 6 options mini-portfolio trades per month.
  • Contrary to popular newsletter services, OPN uses a portfolio approach. I don’t believe that just by investing in one credit spread or iron condor I can continue to grow my large capital base as I personally am risk averse and will in most case never invest all money into one trade.
  • A mini-portfolio may consists of multiple spreads for the same underlying.
  • A mix of powerful trading strategies i.e. Iron Condors, credit spreads, double diagonals, diagonal and calendars.
  • Immediate alerts and e-mail notifications on any updates and adjustments.

General Market Commentary

There is also a special section to have almost daily comments. This is even more helpful when there is lot of uncertainty in the markets. Below is a snapshot that cautioned OPN subscribers in the mid Sept’08 to stay away from markets should Dow drops below 10,700 (subsequent warning of Dow dropping to 8,000 also materialized).

Thorough Rigor

An exclusive section devoted to OPN on forumwhere you can discuss the trades with the fellow subscribers or ask questions directly from OP.Attached picture is a snapshot of the monthly portfolio mainboard. This covers summary of the portfolios as well as P/L for each portfolio. Also highlighted is summary of bonus trades. This is live board so as to quickly share on what’s opened and what’s closed.

This is level-2 details of forum’s main board. Each income portfolio is divided into two threads. The main thread (e.g. RUT Jun’08 income thread) that has all the trade specific details, adjustments and any other trade plan element and the 2nd thread (e.g. Discussion Thread- RUT Income Trade) that is for the members to discuss that portfolio, share their fills and any concerns related to underlying. This way, members know what’s being traded and also stay in touch with what others are thinking.

OPN is not only about the income trades, there are bonus speculative trades as well (Earning play, momentum plays, technical play, special opportunity plays, etc) and there is a dedicated thread for those as well.

Complete Transparency

OPN believes in complete transparency. There is weekly performance tracking update coupled with commentary on almost each portfolio. Also, as appropriate, also added is the next week’s plan.

A portfolio tracker is shared with all the members that they use to track their fills and track. In stead of using a theoretical fill, OPN generally uses best fills from members, at times OP’s fills as well.

Not Just Option Trading

OPN is not only about option trading, But also about other opportunities that may strike time to time. For instance OND’08 period presented some opportunities when stocks were oversold and selling for cheap valuation. A stocks’ list, with OP’s target prices, were shared with the OPN members.

Continuous Learning, Resources

OPNewsletter works on the principle to keep updating its members with the latest development and provide trading resources. Members are encouraged to share resources, ask questions, etc and continue to build knowledge base. Another excellent feature of OPN community is to share key learning. We have a series “Real Lessons from Real Trades and in Real-time”. These are real learning, incurred at the expense of real money and something that you may not find elsewhere. A knowledge base, that continues to expand and enrich member’s understanding of market and how to play this market.

Net, OPNewsletter is not just about sharing some picks and look glossy. This is a complete package to make money together with subscribers and continue to grow in a closely knit community together.

How Much it cost?

  • Monthly Subscription – US$ 148
  • Quarterly Subscription – US$ 399
  • Yearly Subscription – US$1,499

Satisfaction Gaurenteed

No Fee, if No Profit (Always, Every Month) !!!

My commitment is simple. I want to make money with you, not from you. I trade and that generates returns for me. Newsletter is not my business. This satiate my desire of writing and sharing and be rewarded for the efforts. I invest my own money in most of the trades I share via OPN. If you lose, I lose too and if you profit, I profit too.

If it doesn’t make money, no subscription charged for that month. Net, I earn my money by delivering profits to you.

Profitable trading, OP

Hi
Are you planning to open the membership for more subscribers in the near future? Is there a wait list for it?

2 Only Option January 9, 2008 at 11:13 pm

Option Pundit,
Please add me to the wait list for the newsletter.
I agree whole heartedly with reason #7.
Your happiness increases multifold when you help somebody. That is one of the main reasons why I want to earn money so that I can give it away to the needy and improve their life.
Thanks for your website.
Only Option
P.S: I do not see the cost of the subscription for the newsletter.

3 David Tan January 10, 2008 at 3:45 am

Hi OP,

I had been your keen reader of the site since Jul07. Been very impressed with the result of your investment. Please let me know when the newsletter is open for subscription.

Thanks.

4 OptionPundit January 10, 2008 at 10:39 am

RK Murthy, David and Only Option, thank you for your kind words and interest in OPN. I have repriced it at $148/month and I shall be opening soon. My commitment will still remain “No PROFIT, NO FEE”. Since I shall be keeping it limited, first preference will always be to the x-subscribers. I shall keep you posted when I open the “wait-list”.

Thanks again, profitable trading, OP

11 Ben January 12, 2008 at 8:45 pm

Also would be interested in the waiting list. OP, just thought I’d give you some feedback. Your site introduced me to the idea of income trading which I’ve done well so far. I appreciate the effort of putting all this information together. I’ve steered a few others to your site who have consequently shifted some of their portfolio to income trading. Cool stuff.

12 Scott January 18, 2008 at 1:01 pm

I’m interested in OPN, but was wondering what would be the minimum trading account necessary to make this worthwhile?

13 OptionPundit January 18, 2008 at 1:23 pm

Pls check my e-mail for detailed reply. Minimum account for all mini portfolio is roughly $10,000. Generally there are 3-4 mini-portfolio and therefor you may chose to alter capital according to how many portfolio you may want to open.

Profitable trading, OP

Dear Option Pundit,

I have been reading your postings and have enjoyed it. I noticed you opened your waiting list and I am interested in registering for it. Two questions..

#1. I am not a day trader since I am in a full-time job so will I be able to benefit your alerts with taking positions in the evening or morning only

#2. I am still in early stages of my option investments. My level of comforts are limited to long calls, puts and vertical spreads, will I benefit from your recommendations till such time I get comfortable in iron condors and butterflies.

Thank you.

Regards
Wealth Builder

Howdy, looks like an outstanding site. Please put me on the wait list, I’m interested to give your portfolios a try. Thanks, Phil

17 No name February 16, 2008 at 11:50 pm

Do you count the trading cost in your performance or is it before trading cost?
The reason I’m asking is bcause some trades like Iron Condor are very costly and eat a lot of the profit (so you can have +15% on a trade but with the trading cost it becomes closer to 5% even with a cheap trading cost).
Thanks!

18 OptionPundit February 17, 2008 at 1:45 am

These are x-commission because our trading cost is very cheap. For instance, if you open a RUT iron condor for say $800 margins (i.e. make $200 on $800), our commissions vary from $3 to $6 per trade (we can tell you how to lower your commissions) excluding adjustments….that’s 1.5% to 3.00%.

Commissions are not counted as it varies from broker to broker used by individual traders.

19 No name February 18, 2008 at 10:54 pm

Thanks!
I started IC recently on QQQQ and I just realized that’s the reason why the trading cost was expensive. On Q, my max risk is around $2-credit, right? (a better profit/risk than $1 spread).
So that means that in order to make $200 on $800,
I actually have to trade 5*4 contracts. So it becomes $30 for open / close. My calculation in the past was that I would not earn always $200 on $800 – maybe something more like $100 in average with some losses here and there.
At the end I would have $100 benefit – $30 for trade – $30 for taxes = $40 on a risk of $830! On top of that, the risk of early assignment that can mess up my margin. Whoa! I was ready to give up on IC.

But with RUT, it gives me a much more manageable trading cost and I don’t risk early assignments / margin issues nor shares to buy back / sell if I wanted to squeeze more profit by keeping my ATM options till the end. Thanks for the info!

Also i saw that I had to pay $45 to be on the waiting list? Is there some refund of some sort?

20 therookie March 4, 2008 at 12:31 am

Hi,

Please include me in your waiting list. I would love to subscribe to your newsletter. Also, since you give several recommendations monthly, what should the minimum account size be to follow your recommendations?

Thanks,

Hi OP,
Please indicate how do you deliver your recommnedations ? Is it through email or posted on the site ?

Thanks,

Good resource. I’d like to send you an email. Can you send me one so I have your address?

30 Rebecca December 4, 2008 at 3:16 pm

1) You have “3 to 4 mini portfolios”. Since October 2008 says the results are from one portfolio, I assume that the other results are that of all portfolios combined. Can you share the results for each of the portfolios separately? How different are these portfolios?

2) In May 2007 I see your newsletter cost just $28/month. A cost of $148/month is a 428.6% increase in price. I don’t want to take anything away from the fact that your account did well in 2007 and continues to do well in 2008 but $148/month is a lot of money. If a person had the $10,000 portfolio that your performance numbers are based on, they’d be spending 1.5% of their account each month (18% annualized) in subscription fees.

Can you share your actual closed trades, rather than just an overall percent change in account value?

3) Assuming you are sharing the 3 or 4 mini portfolios with each subscriber, is it possible that you could instead share a single portfolio? This is of course assuming that each portfolio is different enough that a person could chose which one they wanted to participate in. You would be able to take more subscribers and you’d be able to offer the subscription at a substantial savings.
